Hallo lieber Gast

- Paula Modersohn-Becker

Mein Norden - Hamburg - Hafen Momente

“Wie auch die Mutter sich bemühte, ihn an den Deich und an das Land zu gewöhnen - er sprach von der See und guckte nach den Schiffen, als wenn es weiter nichts auf der Welt gäbe.”

― Gorch Fock

New Year is not about changing the Dates but Direction;
It's not about changing the Calendar but Commitment;
It's not about changing the Actions but Attitude;
It's not about changing the Fruit but Faith, Force, and Focus!
May you Commit and Create the best New Year ever!

Cordially yours,

Christmas Thoughts - Holiday Traditions - 4. Advent

 .

I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirits in jars and open a jar of it every month.

- Harlan Miller

Fourth Sunday of Advent History The Fourth Sunday of Advent celebrates the last day of Advent before Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. For some Christian denominations, this period is also a celebration of the possible return of Christ via his Second Coming. A tradition in many churches is to light one of four Advent Candles for each week of Advent. The candle for the Fourth Sunday of Advent is purple. It symbolizes peace. The Fourth Sunday of Advent is typically observed with prayer and penance in preparation for Christmas. This year things are a little bit shot, Fourth Sunday and Holy Eve are on the same day. So for you all Happy Holidays! Wishing you a merry Christmas filled with joy, love, and laughter. May the new year bring you happiness, health, and endless creativity!

 Warm wishes,

isabella

Christmas Thoughts - Marzipan

 .

Marzipan is known almost everywhere but obviously its preparation changes based on the country it is made in. For example in the United Kingdom, it is used to make fruit cakes and it is called marzipan, in South America and Spain, it takes the name of marzapan and it is a traditional sweet of Christmas time, even if sometimes almonds can be replaced by pine nuts or peanuts.

In Germany and Norway marzipan is used to make Glücksschwein that is a lucky marzipan charm with the shape of a pig, a traditional gift for New Year.

Lübeck’s Marzipan

Speaking of Germany, the beautiful medieval city Lübeck, it’s known as the homeland of marzipan. Here you can taste this most delicious and famous sweet, made since 1800 by the Niederegger family. Niederegger is a symbol of quality, its marzipan is soft, tasty and not too sweet. Unlike other recipes, German marzipan and specifically the Niederegger’s one, it’s made with rose water that softens the dough and makes its flavor less strong.

Niederegger‘s marzipan shop is situated in Breite Strasse 89, with a marvelous museum at the second floor where visitors can enter for free and dive in the interesting and sweet history of this delight.

Fängt es im Winter zu schneien an,
so schneit es nichts als Marzipan,
Rosinen auch und Mandel.

 Und wer sie gerne knabbern mag,
der hat 'nen guten Handel.

— Joachim Ringelnatz, 1883 - 1934

For many years it has been our tradition to have a marzipan panna cotta for dessert at Christmas. It is prepared with cream, orange peel and Niederegger's wonderful marzipan liqueur. I serve it with a sauce with fermented cranberries and orange fillets. We don't want to miss it.

And because it looked so wonderfully surreal, I just had to capture this view. The left wind turbine appears to float weightlessly above the trees. This wintry fog situation is simply wonderful, don't you think?

Zum 1. Advent - Eisnacht

 .

Eisnacht

Wie in Seide ein Königskind
schläft die Erde in lauter Schnee,
blauer Mondscheinzauber spinnt
schimmernd über der See.

Aus den Wassern der Raureif steigt,
Büsche und Bäume atmen kaum:
durch die Nacht, die erschauernd schweigt,
schreitet ein glitzernder Traum.

Clara Müller-Jahnke, 1860 - 1905

Ich wünsche Euch eine wunderschöne, harmonische Adventszeit.

herzlichst Isabella

Mein Norden - Hamburg im November

 .

"

Mein Norden - November

 .

November

Bin heut im erstarrten Garten gewesen,
Wo ich in Deinem Auge einst Lieder gelesen;

herzlichst

Schloss Schönbrunn Wien - Castle Schoenbrunn Vienna 2

 .

"There is one spectacle grander than the sea, that is the sky; there is one spectacle grander than the sky, that is the interior of the soul."

- Victor Hugo

These photos show Castle Schoenbrunn, Vienna - Austria. We've spent a long weekend in Vienna and it was absolutely wonderful in late Autumn. Especially the sky was breathtakingly, isn't it.  It has looked like a film set.

Southern Corners 37 - November at Girona

It was the last morning of my stay at Girona and the light was so fresh and the colors so crispy that I shortened my breakfast and went with my camera a few steps from our hotel to take some last impressions of this beautiful city.

Time flys and I can't believe that this was at 2018!

The Onyar (Onyar in Catalan, Undarius in Latin) is a Spanish river in Girona, Catalonia that begins at the Guilleries massif at the apex of the Catalan Transversal Range and the Pre-Coastal Range. It joins the Ter at the city of Girona, and crosses the city from south to north, separating the city into the old part (on the right side) and the more modern part (on the left side).

that words sometimes fail to convey.

The best light was on the river as if this beautiful reflection would say, come back soon! And I did so!

My North - Autumn is old...

Poetic scenes all around, warm golden colors, and tired colors go hand in hand.

The parks are empty and peaceful.

Early dawn and in the sky, migratory birds are on their way into the warmth.

I love those days too when it's the whole day grey and less light. Cozy time for candles and warm drinks, cuddling with loved ones. Time for good books and good wine.

“The Autumn is old; The sere leaves are flying;
He hath gathered up gold,
And now he is dying…
Old age, begin sighing.”

- Thomas Hood

Autumn stroll through Tønder, Denmark and William Butler Yeats

 .

The last hint of light at this gorgeous day at Tønder, Denmark.

Best things about rainy Autumn days are that even lovely locations aren't crowded.

  There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

― Alfred Wainwright

Beautiful old houses with awesome windows and decoration.

And it rains cats and dogs the whole day.

Bikes, Bikes and more Bikes everywhere in Tønder.

We enjoy our walk so much!

A lot of Danish flags to see.

Aren't they cute?

The shops in Tønder are so, so beautiful and even more on a rainy Autumn day.

Nisse Heaven!! I couldn't resist and now we own a lovely boy Nisse. This shop was simply magnificent.

Empty streets, cold and windy but there where some "hyggelige" coffee shops too .
Hyygelig means nice, pleasant, cosy, comfortable.

Great food, very kind service. It's always so wonderful to visit Denmark.

She/He was waiting for some cuddles or simply enjoy these cosy plaids all around.

When You Are Old

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,

And nodding by the fire, take down this book,

And slowly read, and dream of the soft look

Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

And loved your beauty with love false or true,

But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,

And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,

Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled

And paced upon the mountains overhead

And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

William Butler Yeats
