Hallo lieber Gast

Costa Brava Greetings

 .

Our time oat the Costa Brava was simply amazing. We saw so much, enjoyed the tranquility of our small holiday resort Calella de Palafrugell, explored, hiked, relaxed, and feasted.

If Once You Have Slept on an Island

If once you have slept on an island
You’ll never be quite the same;
You may look as you looked the day before
And go by the same old name,

You may bustle about in street and shop;
You may sit at home and sew,
But you’ll see blue water and wheeling gulls
Wherever your feet may go.

You may chat with the neighbors of this and that
And close to your fire keep,
But you’ll hear ship whistle and lighthouse bell
And tides beat through your sleep.

Oh, you won’t know why, and you can’t say how
Such change upon you came,
But – once you have slept on an island
You’ll never be quite the same!

Rachel Field (1894–1942)

As you can probably imagine, I took hundreds of pictures. So, there will be one or two in-depth reports in the coming years. Now, as always, I need to let the impressions sink in, get back home, and get back to everyday life, strengthened and motivated.

Southern Corners - 46, Morro Jable Lighthouse

 .

Everyone who knows me knows that I have a huge weakness for lighthouses. And I don't know why, but I missed showing you this part of Fuerteventura with the snow white lighthouse of Jandia.

The Puerto del Morro Jable was built in the 1980s in order to connect Fuerteventura with the other Canary Islands. Get comfortable in a seashore restaurant, sip a coffee, and observe fishing and sport boats maneuvering around big ferries.

The Morro Jable Lighthouse came into service in 1996 and is still active today. It stands next to the beach and the salt marsh. It was conceived as a unique lighthouse, which should serve as a landmark and a reference in its surroundings, in the style of the old English lighthouses. Its height is 60 meters.

“The calming movement of the sea along with the restless ocean breeze gently caresses me creating a soothing trance which lulls me to a place of peace.”

 – M. L. Borges

We haven't visited this south part of the island often and feel more at home in the middle and on the west coast.

Heiligenhafen - a room with a view

 .

Last year's August we spent a long weekend at Heiligenhafen, Baltic Sea. Our hotel room was a corner room with two large floor-to-ceiling windows and had a incredibly beautiful view.

The hotel's name is Beach Motel and it's perfect for holiday on the coast, with the sea on your doorstep, a fresh breeze of Baltic Sea air around your nose - and all this in a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere.

Sundown watching was so, so beautiful. But sure, we leave our room for some wonderful dinners and walks.

Last light of a wonderful day at the sea at 21:26 PM.

Southern Corners - 45 the colors of Fuerteventura

“To take a good rest in life time to time, you must know the ways to make yourself a remote island! An island no one can reach…”

– Mehmet Murat ildan

Okay, we aren't the only people on Fuerteventura, but it always feels a bit like this. I can't wait to see this beautiful island again.

Bodensee

Die Dörfer sind wie ein Garten.
In Türmen von seltsamen Arten
klingen die Glocken wie weh.
Uferschlösser warten
und schauen durch schwarze Scharten
müd auf den Mittagsee.

Und schnellende Weilchen spielen,
und goldene Dampfer kielen
leise den lichten Lauf;
und hinter den Uferzielen
tauchen die vielen, vielen
Silberberge auf.

Rainer Maria Rilke, 1875 - 1926

Southern Corner 43 - Tusany - an insider hotel tip!

Some hotels, places are so incredibly beautiful that one can't believe that they exist. The Hotel Albergo Villa Marta is truly one of them. It is an eighteenth century villa built for hunting reasons. It is 5 km from the city centre of Lucca, in the countryside that separates Pisa from Lucca.

Rooms are traditional in style, some with exposed beams, others with frescoed ceilings, and are sparingly furnished with antiques that are not expensive but suitably elegant. All are up to date: behind the time-honored facade are modern fittings and extras, including accessible rooms on the ground floor.

The bedrooms overlook the estate's gardens and surrounding countryside. Still, a short stroll will reveal even more, including an outdoor swimming pool and a small private chapel, ideal for a fairytale wedding (or to give a nod to your future spouse).

The extensive breakfast is one of Albergo Villa Marta's strengths, and if you're in a foodie mood, wine tastings and cooking classes can be arranged.

Each room has its character, with a combination of elegant furniture, subtle colors, and simple architecture.

The villa is surrounded by a large Renaissance Lucchese garden where guests can enjoy the tranquility. Its elegance and crystal-clear pool promise an unforgettable holiday for those looking for relaxation, warm Tuscan hospitality, and culture.

Southern Corners 39 - Lake Zürich, Switzerland

 .

Some stays are much more beautiful than others because of the selected hotel, the weather, the local food, etc. And these memories above are truly some of the best hotel room outlooks we've ever made.

It was growing dusk, the blue hour when solid things take on a certain transparency
and phantoms become palpable.

- Kage Baker

And as a cherry on the cake we've had a magical Alpenglow.

Alpenglow (from German: Alpenglühen, lit. 'Alps glow'; Italian: enrosadira) is an optical phenomenon that appears as a horizontal reddish glow near the horizon opposite to the Sun when the solar disk is just below the horizon.

Our hotel was the gorgeous Alex Lake Zürich located at Thalwil, Switzerland and that's what we see when we look out of our lovely room.
