Hallo lieber Gast

My North - Midsummer Night

 .

During summer, there are several dates with spectacular illuminations between 22:00 and 23:00 pm at this gorgeous baroque garden

For the illumination event we arrived at 22:00 pm and the blue hour creates a truly magical atmosphere.

The Parterre, or Luststück, originally formed the counterpart to the palace's large central ballroom and today serves as an outdoor ballroom. Its eight rectangular flowerbeds are decorated at the corners by 32 white-painted sandstone sculptures. They were created by the artists Christian Georg Vick, Antonio Laghi, Pieter van Empthusen, and Arnold Rossfeld and depict the four continents known at the time, deities from Greek mythology, and allegories. Since 1937, the focal point of the Great Parterre has been the Bell Fountain, whose "bell" is formed by 164 individual water jets. Each of these jets is illuminated by its own lamp in the evening, making the fountain particularly impressive in the dark.

I love taking an overview image from the top of the cascade fountain. A picture of this fountain can be found below.

Especially the large fountain looks amazing, and happily the park wasn't crowded.

Around the pools, one could hear George Frideric Handel's Water Music, which was being played this evening, from loudspeakers distributed around the area. This made one feel as if one were a figure from the Baroque era strolling through a grand garden party.

Slowly the night falls down and we a stroll to another "hot spot" in the park, the great fountain. For nearly 300 hundred years she's one of the highest fountain in Europe. And watching her at night is so specially, that's hard to found words for it.

Can you see the great fountain in the background?

The red lighting on the castle was due to a party. It wasn't my taste; it was too loud for a Midsummer's Eve. Normally, the castle is also lit in white and glows yellow at night.

The cascade fountain in it's full glory!

Here you can enjoy a bit of acoustic atmosphere!

The Great Fountain working!

The park closes it's doors at 23:00, so we leave it with the very last light of the day.

Enchanted and very impressed, we made our way home. We've attended this special event several times over the past few years. It's always simply beautiful.

Thirty-two pieces of sandstone sculpture are sited throughout the Great Garden, including those representing the four continents, the four seasons, the four elements, and the gods of the ancient world.

Mein Norden im Spätherbst

 .

Banne die Sorge, genieße, was frommt,
Eh' Stille, Schnee und Winter kommt.

Theodor Fontane, 1819 - 1898

November's Yellow - My North

"The thinnest yellow light of November is more warming and exhilarating than any wine they tell of. The mite which November contributes becomes equal in value to the bounty of July."

Stefan George, 1868 - 1933

And again I'll take you with me on a walk at the Royal Gardens Herrenhausen, Hannover. The Great Garden has always been one of the most distinguished Baroque gardens of Europe.

Park in Autumn

.

'Tis Autumn! and the short'ning day,
The chilly evening's sober gray,
And winds that hoarser blow;
The fading foliage of the trees,
Which rustles sere in every breeze,
The approach of Winter show.

The Beauty of Herrenhausen Gardens - 3

Just like the ladies and gentlemen of the court in centuries gone by, visitors today can stroll around amidst opulently designed beds, splendid sculptures and artistically clipped, illuminated hedges.

Water features can be heard babbling in hidden corners while the Great Fountain rises to an impressive height of 70 meter. ©Welcome to Herrenhausen Gardens

The Great Garden is surrounded by a canal accented by tree-lined walkways.  At each southern corner garden pavilions in the French classical style are sited.  Designed by court architect Louis Remy de la Fosse at the beginning of the 18th century they appear identical yet one is built of wood and one, having been rebuilt after a fire in 1752, is of stone.

With this post the little summer series about this awesome park is over and I hope you all have enjoyed this walk with me.
Because it was a really hot summer day with temperature high over 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) I've taken the whole Herrenhausen Garden series with my iPhone x. And also this camera had difficulties due to the high temperatures. Nevertheless I would say, not so bad the result - what do you mean?

Now, summer is definitely over and the September shows us already his autumnal side. Wish you a wonderful new month and a great summer finish.

The Beauty of Herrenhausen Gardens - 2

The Great Parterre with the wonderful Bell Fountain placed in the center looks perfect and planted thousands of flowers at the borders were overwhelming.

The baroque garden remained virtually unchanged as a witness of his time. Hannover has an exceptional woman to thank for the greatest treasure that the city possesses: the Baroque garden in Herrenhausen was created by Electress Sophie (1630-1714).

Music, dance and theatre at Herrenhausen – this tradition thrives today with drama in the hedge theatre, concerts, festivals, world-class small-scale performing arts and international fireworks competitions to enliven Grosser Garten in Herrenhausen all year round.

The summer residence of the Royal House of Hanover was destroyed in the Second World War. Now it has been rebuilt on the original site to the original plans and filled with life for modern times.

Taking a little refreshment blown by the wind at the Bell Fountain was really beautiful during the warmer and warmer temperatures at this day.

Everywhere where places created for the Little Festival in the Great GardenIt was a little bit like time traveling and and we would not have wondered if a Baroc lady had come out from behind the next hedge.

Next week this lovely walk with you will be continued. So don't miss my weekly posts here.

I wish you all a great and relaxing weekend,

Sincerely yours,

Isabella

The Beauty of Herrenhausen Gardens - 1

The Royal Garden of Herrenhausen, Hannover is one of my all time favorite parks and I'm very pleased living near to it. Two weeks ago at a bright and very warm - in the afternoon really hot day I've spent a wonderful walk with a good friend.

The Garden was in perfect conditions, because in the evening one of the yearly big events started - The Little Festival in the Great Garden. And so the garden shows its very best side. Perfect timing for a photo walk.

It was early in the morning and so the park was not over crowded. The planting was breathtakingly beautiful and the two large fountains (Bell Fountain and the Large Fountain) were fortunately turned on.

The best overview to the jewel in the crown, the Great Parterre and the Bell Fountain on can take from the Great Cascade which is the oldest sculpture in this amazing baroque Garden.

One view and you know why you MUST climb up the stairs of this sculpture.

The black color is a result of the World War 2 and the bombing. Because the building stands next to the castle, which has been completely destroyed. The palace is rebuilt and now a congress centre, and if you got time, you should also visit the museum – it is quite small, but gives a flavour of the historical importance of Herrenhausen and the Royal family.
