Hallo lieber Gast

My North - unexpected

 .

The only real things in life is the unexpected things.
Everything else is just an illusion.

- Watkin Tudor Jones

Discovering a new spot near to us is always a great joy. So we were delighted with the walk through the Dead Bog, in German Totes Moor. It's small but gorgeous at the edge of the Steinhuder Meer.  Here and then, the path gives lovely views of the great lake.

mir einen Wind;
und der erst beginnt,
so wird er wieder meine Arme heben -

Rainer Maria Rilke, 14.5.1898, Viareggio

My North - blue hour and Rilke

"Steinhuder Meer" in German, or Lake Steinhude is so near to us that if the longing to be at sea again is too great, we drive 30 minutes after work, and there we are!

During July and until now in August 2023 heavy rain comes and goes so the clouds are spectacular and you need rain-approved clothes for a walk.

Further good things were that the location wasn't crowded and the light was amazing.

The last light of the sun tried a peekaboo through heavy clouds and it was truly magical.

We finished the day with a tasty fish dinner. Live is good - isn't it?

Rainer Maria Rilke, 1875 - 1926

Study the past 2021

This pandemic and full of lost last year I wasn't sure if I have enough nice moments from 2021 to share them with you, but I love traditions and so I give it a try. All is said about last year's complications...

- January 2021

My North - we have started the year with an amazing walk around the Meißendorf lakes.

Study the past, if you would divine the future.

- Confucius

- February 2021

February send us the very early signs of Springtime to our cottage garden. I love these tiny crocuses, they aren't afraid of rain and cold and are such gorgeous signs of hope every year again.

- March 2021

And suddenly the full Spring is there. So much needed during this complicated time and I'm so very thankful living in the countryside so we can enjoy Spring with all senses.

- April 2021

The saddest Springtime for years, my beloved father died in his 92nd year and was buried under blooming trees at my hometown Ebstorf.

- Mai 2021

The Steinhuder Sea is a very lovely nearby location to visit and have a wonderful walk around it.

- June 2021

June was another hard month because we had to say goodbye to our beloved Xenia after 17 wonderful years together.

- Juli 2021

There's always some magic in the Summer garden.

- August 2021

The Lueneburg Heath is in full bloom, that's every year at August a highlight to enjoy.

- September 2021

First time after two long years at the sea again, I can't say how very happy I am!!!! St. Peter-Ording

- October 2021

Breathtaking autumn moments right on your own doorstep, wonderful walk through the park around Castle Celle.

- November 2021

And again I used the Corona year for another year of my online art studies and painted in my free time as much as my sweet little cat princess alowed.

- December 2021

December gives us a lovely hint of early winter, so one can enjoy the warmth of a cozy home filled with love and candlelight.

I'm so grateful for this marvelous year full of unforgettable moments and I hope that you enjoy this review as much as I do.

All my best wishes to 2022 dear friends.

Hugs and Kisses

Mein Norden: Steinhuder Meer - Lake Steinhude

 .

When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.

  – Rumi

The Steinhuder Meer or Lake Steinhude is a lake in Lower Saxony, Germany located 30 kilometers (19 mi) northwest of Hanover. It is named after the nearby village of Steinhude.

It is part of the glacial landscape formed after the recession of the glaciers of the latest Ice Age, the Weichselian glaciation. There are two theories regarding how the lake of Steinhude was formed. One of them says that glaciers gouged out the hole and meltwater filled it. The other theory states that an ice storm formed the hole and as the groundwater rose, the lake was created. In its middle, there is a small artificial island carrying an 18th-century fortification, the Wilhelmstein. Today the lake is the heart of a nature reserve, the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park, and is also used as a recreational area.

A short visit to this wonderful place and a nice walk along the lakeside is one of these things that gives to me the necessary healing for my travel longing soul and the hopeful mood I need.

"Historical Wooden Boats "Auswanderer"

For a nostalgic trip take a ride in one of our historic wooden boats called Auswanderer. These traditional boats, powered by wind or motor, carry 20 to 30 passengers. The name Auswanderer sounds somewhat like wanderlust and means emigrant. The unusual name is fitting, for until 1866 Lake Steinhuder Meer served as a border. The north and east coast were a part of the Kingdom of Hanover, while the southwest belonged to the Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe. If you went from one shore to the other, you actually emigrated.
Our guests can also book the wooden boats for round trips and individual tours. For a particularly special day, you can combine a trip on the boat with your bike tour or hike."

My North - Behind

.

Behind every dark cloud, there is an every-shining sun.
Just wait. In time the cloud will pass.

Marianne Williamson

Last year's Spring we make a weekend visit at the Steinhuder Meer,  a lovely calm place for a wonderful walk. And just when we arrived a storm was over. This mighty dark cloud was absolutely impressive

Mein Leben ist wie leise See

.

Mein Leben ist wie leise See:
Wohnt in den Uferhäusern das Weh,
wagt sich nicht aus den Höfen.
Nur manchmal zittert ein Nahn und Fliehn:
aufgestörte Wünsche ziehn
darüber wie silberne Möven.

Und dann ist alles wieder still…
Und weißt du, was mein Leben will,
hast du es schon verstanden?
Wie eine Welle im Morgenmeer
will es, rauschend und muschelschwer,
an deiner Seele landen.

Rainer Maria Rilke, 1875 - 1926

my North - giving light

Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space.  It does not seek anything in return;
it asks not whether you are friend or foe.  It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished.

My North - be still 2

.
.

“When you are in doubt, be still, and wait; when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage. So long as mists envelop you, be still; be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists -- as it surely will. Then act with courage.”

- Ponca Chief White Eagle, 1800's to 1914

“Be still

Stillness reveals the secrets of eternity”

― Lao Tzu

Hi Lovelies, it's Sunday and I would love to take you with me on a walk at the lakeside of the Steinhuder Meer, Mardorf. It's always a marvelous location, but on a sunny and quite winter day it's so poetic, that I decide to share this gorgeous moments with you and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

See you soon, xo
