Southern Corner 44 - Porquerolles vertical

 

Photographing vertical holiday impressions that also convey a real atmosphere is really not easy.

I noticed these vertical impressions while looking through my Porquerolles photographs for a suitable watercolor motif. I realized that they would be well suited to a post of their own.

Of course, the wonderful marina is particularly suitable for this format.

But impressions from our hikes around the island also offer wonderful vertical motifs.

The memories of the fragrant forest paths are particularly beautiful.

Or the breathtaking views over the wildly rugged coastline.

Again and again you can see glimpses of hidden bays, which are called "Calanque" here.

From afar but always a good orientation on the hike is the impressive lighthouse of Porquerolles.

This one is my absolute favorite because it shows the blue mountains of the nearby mainland and the idyll of the island equally.

The narrow streets in the town also make wonderful motifs.

I have already painted this and I love the watercolor as much as the original.

Alsace - an old love - part two

 

Traveling through Elsass during the late Summer or Fall is very delightful. 

We especially love visiting the so-called Potters' Villages Soufflenheim and Betschdorf. 

Nice photogenic motives at every corner.

If you love this traditional rustic ceramic, you should definitely buy it directly from the manufacturer.

Eating and drinking well is also an absolute must. The cuisine in Alsace is as rustic as the ceramics, but just as delicious as you would expect from France.

Traditional costumes in Alsace. 

A Catholic Alsatian woman will wear the "Kutt", a long red skirt while a Protestant Alsatian woman will wear the "rock", shorter and of green, blue, red or purple colour according to the liturgical calendar. The male costume is simpler: a red waistcoat over a white shirt with a black pant is the most important element.

The whole atmosphere in the charming villages is quiet and tranquil, the people are friendly and the entire surroundings are beautiful.

It is impossible to leave without a new piece of ceramic.

And then there is the delicious wine of Alsace...

Das ist nicht Sommer mehr, das ist September

Das ist nicht Sommer mehr, das ist September ... Herbst:

diese großen weichen Wolken am Himmel, 

diese feinen weißen Spinnwebschleier in der Ferne

und hinter den Gärten mit den Sonnenblumen

der ringelnde Rauch aufglimmender Krautfeuer ...

und diese süße weiche Müdigkeit und diese

frohe ruhige Stille überall und trotzdem wieder

diese frische, satte, erntefreudige, herbe Kraft ...

das ist nicht Sommer ... das ist Herbst.

...und doch ist es für uns schon immer ein Reisemonat gewesen, der uns mal weiter weg, wie nach Thailand zog, oder ins Elsass, an den Bodensee, nach Südfrankreich oder Spanien. Aber auch unser Norden ist im Spätsommer wundervoll, auf jeden Fall wird gereist und Euch werde ich mitnehmen!
