The Beauty of Herrenhausen Gardens - 1

The Royal Garden of Herrenhausen, Hannover is one of my all time favorite parks and I'm very pleased living near to it. Two weeks ago at a bright and very warm - in the afternoon really hot day I've spent a wonderful walk with a good friend.

The Garden was in perfect conditions, because in the evening one of the yearly big events started - The Little Festival in the Great Garden. And so the garden shows its very best side. Perfect timing for a photo walk.

It was early in the morning and so the park was not over crowded. The planting was breathtakingly beautiful and the two large fountains (Bell Fountain and the Large Fountain) were fortunately turned on.

The best overview to the jewel in the crown, the Great Parterre and the Bell Fountain on can take from the Great Cascade which is the oldest sculpture in this amazing baroque Garden.

One view and you know why you MUST climb up the stairs of this sculpture.

The black color is a result of the World War 2 and the bombing. Because the building stands next to the castle, which has been completely destroyed. The palace is rebuilt and now a congress centre, and if you got time, you should also visit the museum – it is quite small, but gives a flavour of the historical importance of Herrenhausen and the Royal family.

Scenic Weekends - Inspire me Monday

Date with Calder's Flamingo

Alexander Calder’s abstract stabile anchors the large rectangular plaza bordered by three Bauhaus style federal buildings designed by Mies van der Rohe. The sculpture’s vivid color and curvilinear form contrast dramatically with the angular steel and glass surroundings. However, Flamingo is constructed from similar materials and shares certain design principles with the architecture, thereby achieving successful integration within the plaza. Despite its monumental proportions, the open design allows the viewer to walk under and through the sculpture, leading one to perceive it in relation to human scale.

Die grüne Zitadelle von Magdeburg

Die grüne Zitadelle von Magdeburg, der letzte Bau des begnadeten Architekten und Visionärs Friedensreich Hundertwasser, gilt als eines seiner weltweit größten Baukunstwerke und stellt für jeden Fotografen eine Riesenherausforderung dar. Unmöglich in nur wenigen Bildern darzustellen wie lebendig, wie lebensbejahend und von überbordender Kreativität dieses grandiose Gebäude auf den Betrachter wirkt.

Der Künstler hatte alle notwendigen planerischen Arbeiten noch vor seinem Tod am 19. Februar 2000 abgeschlossen, das Baumodell war gefertigt und so stand einer postumen Realisierung des Projekt nichts im Wege.

In der grünen Zitadelle sind alle architektonischen Anliegen Hundertwassers in schönster Weise miteinander verschmolzen. Alles ist Bewegung, Tanz und Lebensfreude, spielerische Ästhetik und harmonische Verschmelzung zum Wohle und Nutzen der Bewohner. Seien es nun Menschen in den Wohnungen oder Vögel in den zahlreichen Bäumen, Dachgärten und Terrassen.

Ich werde sicherlich noch ein bis zwei weitere Posts mit Fotografien dieses einzigartigen Baukunstwerks zeigen und hoffe, dass es euch ebenso viel Freude macht, wie mir.

Des Künstlers Aufgabe jedoch ist es, gerade jetzt diese Welt zu erhalten, zu vergessen, was falsch gemacht wurde, zu verschönern, was hässlich gemacht wurde, zu warnen mit all seiner musischen und seherischen Macht.

*If you've come as far as the Philharmonic, it's worth heading for the Philharmonic pavilion (Elbphilharmonie Pavilion, Hamburg - Harbor City), located at the Magellan Terraces, about half a kilometre from the growing glass wave. With three storeys of steel and glass, designed by the well-known local architect Andreas Heller, the pavilion functions as a sort of overture for the Philharmonic building. Here you can see a scale model of the main auditorium, a tenth of its actual size. Along the perimeter of the facade, twenty loudspeakers sprout like austere stone flowers. All you need to do is lend an ear to the future repertoire. The sensation is somewhat surreal; there are construction sites and building cranes all about, but you press your ear to a stone flower and listen to Tchaikovsky, for example, performed by the Latvian virtuoso Baiba Skride together with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

... this is the beautiful Rambling Rose "Bobbie James" in my Garden. It's a one time blowing rose, but breathtaking in fragrance and opulence. I've use the gorgeous texture "Carmel" from KimKlassen for this image.
