Nothern Minimalism - Vorfreude

 .

Zu dieser Jahreszeit zieht es uns immer wieder stark an die norddeutschen Küsten oder auf die Inseln und unsere Vorfreude ist auch in diesem Jahr schon sehr groß! 

Sich mal wieder ordentlich durchpusten lassen, Himmel und Weite einatmen, ist ein MUSS auch wenn es nur kurz ist.

Die Natur eilt nicht und dennoch wird alles erreicht.

Sich wieder neu erden, sozusagen einnorden, ist ein wichtiges Element in unserem Leben und durch die Reduziertheit der Küstenlandschaften wirklich gut und nachhaltig umsetzbar. 

Auch der Frühling ist dort zu finden, klein und fein, oft später, aber umso freudiger begrüßt. 

Ich konnte mich von jeher der Philosophie des Minimalismus anschließen und teile auch hier die Meinung Fontanes: 

Die Dinge beobachten gilt mir beinah mehr als sie besitzen,
und so hat man schließlich seinen Glück- und Freudeertrag
wie anscheinend Bevorzugtere.

Mein Norden - eine Art von Sommer

Ja, auch das ist Sommer in Norddeutschland und es ist eine Stimmung, die ich besonders liebe. Wenn der Wind heftig über die fast leeren weiten Strände bläst, dann fühle ich mich einfach perfekt eingenordet, frei und ganz und gar am richtigen Platz.

Heiligenhafen - a room with a view

 .

Last year's August we spent a long weekend at Heiligenhafen, Baltic Sea. Our hotel room was a corner room with two large floor-to-ceiling windows and had a incredibly beautiful view.

The hotel's name is Beach Motel and it's perfect for holiday on the coast, with the sea on your doorstep, a fresh breeze of Baltic Sea air around your nose - and all this in a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere.

Sundown watching was so, so beautiful. But sure, we leave our room for some wonderful dinners and walks.

Southern Corners 42 - Viareggio, Tuscany - Italy

Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea

It is the foamy waves from the Tyrrhenian on one side and the stark white marble peaks of Massa Carrara on the other which give way for the nickname Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The access to the sea has always been one of the primary characteristics of Viareggio, causing most of its ups and downs throughout history. Today it reigns as the second largest city in the province of Lucca, and during the season of Carnival and the summer months, its population explodes with visitors far and wide who come to stay at one of the many hotels, tempted by the colors, the energy, the sandy beaches and the delectable menu of fish.

Initially built as the port to the city of Lucca, competing with that of Pisa, the town of Viareggio didn’t really grow into the definition of a full-fledged city until the 1800’s where it started to take on a more permanent and residential feel about it. There are a little over 10km of sandy beaches between the private and public areas in this town along the coast of the Versilia though most of the public beaches are within the beautiful Parco Naturale Regionale Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciuccoli.

In the 20th century the first nucleus of the 3 km long “La Passeggiata” began to take shape, a wide road running parallel to the beach decorated with gelato stores, caffès and park benches in the “liberty style.” This is still the place to stroll for good restaurants, sandy beaches and local shopping. These were the very caffè that Giacomo Puccini would sit at and it was also the very place where inventors of the Carnival - Tuscany style met and dreamed up the idea of 4 weeks of floats and customs!

 

 

 One of the most captivating and wonderful examples of the local liberty architecture is the Gran Caffè Margherita: you could stop here for breakfast, a cocktail, lunch or dinner - food and drinks are always simply delicious ... even if they are a bit expensive.  But then you are also paying for the refined, sophisticated ambiance which will remind you of a country club during the 1920-30’s, when people like the musician Giacomo Puccini or the physician Guglielmo Marconi used to "hang out" at Margherita.

Southern Corners 40 - island Fuerteventura

.

 

Visiting my beloved island Fuerteventura means not only staying at the ocean and watching the blue and the waves for hours and hours. 

It is also the peaceful and very quiet atmosphere around our lovely house. The small things glowing in the golden light of silent days which fill heart and soul again. 

Smelling the scent of blooming oleanders and salt in the air, listening to the quiet cooing of the pigeons... 

... and looking forward to a delicious fish dinner at the seaside restaurant. 

Home again the sundown is kissing the mountains and we are surely in heaven, we know it. 

In the south the senses are heightened. The hands become more agile,

the eye more attentive and the thinking clearer.

Nothing more beautiful - Rügen, Baltic Sea

 .

Binz is known and famous for its very well-preserved spa architecture. This term describes the diversity and multitude of buildings created due to the seaside resort life at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. At this time, interested parties from all over Germany purchased land in Binz and commissioned their local architects to build hotels and guesthouses. 

The desire to “go back to nature” influenced people’s lifestyles and architecture. This resulted in houses with bay windows, turrets, and balconies that were artfully decorated with carved ornaments and rosettes and playful Art Nouveau elements. 

The Binz spa architecture combines Mediterranean flair with Nordic clarity and still reflects the charm of the turn of the century today.

April and May are a perfect time of year to explore Rügen. It is not overcrowded and the charm of the island can fully unfold.

Southern Corners 38 - Fuerteventura, Canary Islands - Spain

 

 

Every first evening on Fuerteventura we drive to this lovely beach at La Pared and enjoy beeing there again. Sure we'll combined it with a delicious seafood dinner at the small restaurant there. 

 Every time I stand before a beautiful beach, its waves seem to whisper to me: If you choose the simple things and find joy in nature’s simple treasures, life and living need not be so hard.

Mein Norden - Töwerland

 

Von einzigartiger Schönheit und Stille sind sie die Sonnenuntergänge auf dieser wahrlich magischen Nordseeinsel.  Und man kann sich kaum lösen von der Farbenpracht und dem Glitzern. 

Der Name Töwerland kommt vom nordfriesischen Wort Töwer, was Zauber bedeutet und den gibt es hier überall und zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit zu sehen. Seit vielen Jahren geben wir gerne zu, diesem besonderen Zauber verfallen zu sein. 

Juist - Sommer im Töwerland

Zeit geht anders hier
zottelnde Pferdekutschen und
segelnde Möwen im Aufwind
überholen dich, mich und den Tag
